When I first got these sheets, I was shocked by how soft they were. Now after using them for a month, I am even more in love! They've only gotten comfier after going through the wash a few times. And the navy blue color looks beautiful with my white bedding. This is almost my first experience with linen, period. I have a pair of old old linen pants that I love (as evidenced by the fact that they are at least 400 years old and held together with bailing twine and safety pins!). They are sooo comfortable during the summer. I have long been curious about linen sheets, saw these, and decided to give them a try. They are very expensive! I have always been a sheet fanatic, far preferring heavy percale cotton/poly blends, both for the smoothness and coolness, and the lovely way they come out of the dryer. "Heavy" sheets are getting very hard to find, I think because of the higher retail cost (cheaper seems to be be the siren song now). I was initially concerned that the linen would be wrinkly (like my pants), and would be rough-feeling on my skin. Both fears were groundless. In addition, I waited to review until I slept for a couple of nights on the laundered sheets. Right out of the package they were smooth, but I just knew that after laundering they would be different. WRONG. They were soft but not too wrinkly. Hubby folds my sheets--I tell him that he is so good at it because of his long orangutan-like arms (and he buys it!). I draped them over a chair back right out of the dryer, and it took him about 4 hours to get to them. When I put them on the bed they were far smoother than I would have imagined. Soft and maybe a little crinkly, but not wrinkly. I have an old, not-deep mattress (9") which can be a problem with fitted bottom sheets made for deep mattresses; they just do not keep the sheet smooth during sleep. I have tried a Bed Scrunchy, and usually end up using both it and the criss-crossey suspenders that go under the mattress. However, it was not necessary with this bottom sheet. The elastic is very strong and holds the sheet tightly in place. Sleeping on it did not make it bunch up or get all wrinkly. The feel of the linen on my skin was not rough, which I expected; it felt smooth to the touch. One red flag that goes up when I am looking for new sheets is "soft." That usually means that it lacks all shape, you could wad it up into a little ball, and it sometimes feels "clingy" when it touches skin. Not so this linen. It is soft to the touch, but holds it shape well. The top sheet stays put--it does not end up oozing down toward the foot of the bed during movement. The top sheet is also quite large and drapes over the edges of the bed quite a ways. The edges are nicely sewn. The hems are very well done. The elastic is strong and firmly stitched. If, over time, I need to use the bottom sheet suspenders, okay. I expect my sheets to last a long time, and elastic does give over the long run. I did press the pillow cases, and I may start pressing the wide hem of the top sheet, because they were a little wrinkly--but that is just my preference. This is the second set of pillowcases lately that has the fold-over feature, which is new for me, but I am finding that I actually like it. It keeps the pillow inside! So, to summarize, I really like these sheets. I got the grey ones, which are more of a greenish gray. They are very heavy, launder well, fit my bed far better than I expected, and are very comfortable to sleep on. Are they worth the cost? Yes, if you like linen; and there is nothing like linen! They were shipped quickly, packaged well, and arrived safely. The quality of these sheets is evident, and I am very happy with them. These are so luxurious to use! They feel so soft and have such supple movement to them. They are selling very well, all the stitching is in and there are no loose threads. The gray color Has a subtle violet undertone to it. This perfectly fit my daughters twin bed. The natural material allows her to sleep more comfortably, without sweating, regulating her body temperature.Very nice sheets that look great and feel wonderful to sleep on. I'm not sure they are cooling but I'm also not sure they aren't. I have horrible trouble with being hot during the night so if your flashes aren't as hot/long as mine, these might truly help with keeping you cool. In any event, they look and feel great without even taking the cooling effect into account. What is linen and is it right for you? Linen is a cotton like fabric grown exclusively in Northern Europe. This exclusivity is part of the reason the price is so high. Once harvested, linen generally either goes to textile companies in Europe, or the vast majority to be processed in China. The European linen sheets can cost 3 to 6 times the price of sheets coming from China. These sheets come from a Boston based company who has the linen processed in China. Thus the price is much less expensive than European sheets, but not as inexpensive as Chinese based companies. A middle ground. As for the fabric itself, linen’s nature makes it impossible to create sheets with high thread counts. Therefore linen feels a bit coarse in the beginning, but softens up over time through use and washings. Out of the box, these sheets will not feel nearly as soft as silk, or 1000 thread count cotton sheets. These particular sheets are very nice with deep pockets that easily fit over both mattress and topper. The construction quality is excellent, and the color has a natural, old world luxurious look. I don’t notice a large difference between these sheets and other linen sheets I have that cost half the price, but come from a Chinese company. Both products seem similar.I really like these sheets! Just not sure if they’re worth the large price given they are processed in China, just like similar less expensive linen sheets.I trust this review has been helpful. Thank you for reading.
